【Abstract】Medicinal photonics (biophotonics) includes a variety of both therapeutic (effects of light on tissue) and diagnostic (effects of tissue on light) applications. In this talk, the latter category will be highlighted, with a brief review of basic science, enabling technologies, and representative uses of biophotonics for non-invasive tissue assessment. Developments in optical coherence tomography for microvascular imaging and tissue polarimetry for anisotropy monitoring, both actively investigated in our laboratory, will also be described.
